Terms of Service

The rules for using Owlwo Meals. By creating an account or using the app, you accept these terms.

1. Who operates Owlwo Meals

Owlwo Meals ("Owlwo Meals", the "service", "we") is a recipe-discovery application operated by Marco Patiño, an individual, based in Mexico. You can reach us at hello@owlwoapp.com. For legal matters, put the word "Legal" in the email subject line. "You" or "user" means anyone who uses the service.

These Terms of Service (the "Terms"), together with the Privacy Policy and the Disclaimer, form the complete agreement between you and us regarding the service.

2. Acceptance and eligibility

By creating an account, installing, or using Owlwo Meals, you confirm that you have read and accept these Terms. If you disagree, do not use the service.

You must be at least 13 years old to use Owlwo Meals. If you are between 13 and 17, you need the consent of a parent or legal guardian to create an account. Owlwo Meals is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

3. What the service is

Owlwo Meals helps you discover recipes that match your taste. You can browse a curated catalog of real recipes, rate them by swiping (like, dislike, skip), save favorites, and receive personalized suggestions based on your preferences.

Important things to understand about how Owlwo Meals works:

The catalog is real, never fabricated. We never invent recipes or data. Every recipe comes from a legitimate source: a verifiable public source (website, video, or publication, always linked to its origin), a recipe contributed by a chef or creator with their consent, or a personal recipe uploaded by you or another user. Any field that cannot be verified is omitted, not invented.
Owlwo suggests, it never acts on its own. The service does not save preferences, mark favorites, or take any action without your direct interaction.
Owlwo Meals is not a nutritionist or doctor. Recipes are informational. They are not dietary, nutritional, or medical advice (see the Disclaimer).
The app requires an internet connection and a compatible device. Some features may change, be added, or be removed over time.

4. Your account and security

To use Owlwo Meals you create an individual account. Access is via a magic link sent to your email and/or passkeys such as Face ID or Touch ID. You are responsible for:

providing accurate information and keeping it current;
protecting your email, device, and passkeys;
all activity that occurs under your account.

Notify us immediately at hello@owlwoapp.com if you detect any unauthorized use of your account.

5. Acceptable use

You agree to use Owlwo Meals only for lawful, personal purposes. In particular, you must not:

use the service for illegal, fraudulent, or third-party-rights-infringing activities;
upload, post, store, or transmit pornographic or sexually explicit content, and in particular any child sexual abuse material (child pornography / CSAM), or any other criminal content or activity;
attempt to access accounts, data, or systems that are not yours;
reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract the source code, except to the extent expressly permitted by law;
use bots, scrapers, or automated means to extract the recipe catalog or other service data;
overload, disrupt, or compromise the security or integrity of the service;
artificially manipulate the rating or preference system;
resell, sublicense, or commercially exploit the service or the catalog without our authorization.

Zero tolerance. Any violation of the prohibition above — and especially anything involving child sexual abuse material — will result in immediate termination of your account access and removal of the content. Where required or permitted by law, we will preserve evidence and report the content and your information to the competent authorities (including, as applicable, the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) in the US and Mexican authorities).

6. The recipe catalog

The Owlwo Meals catalog is a collection of real recipes, curated by us, which may come from (i) verifiable public sources, always linked to their origin; (ii) chefs or creators who authorize us to include their recipes or license them to us; or (iii) personal recipes uploaded by users. We make reasonable efforts to keep the information accurate and up to date; however:

The catalog is provided for informational purposes only. Ingredient details, preparation times, portion sizes, and nutritional values are guidance only and should be verified from the original source before preparing a dish.
Where a recipe links to an original source (website or video), that source is the definitive reference; in case of any discrepancy, the original source prevails.
We do not guarantee that the catalog is free of errors, inaccuracies, or omissions, nor that all linked external sources remain available.
Allergen information is not exhaustive. If you have allergies, intolerances, or dietary restrictions, always consult the original source and a healthcare professional before preparing or eating any recipe.
Chef and creator recipes. Some recipes are included with the consent of, or under license from, the chef or creator, who represents and warrants that they hold the rights necessary for the content they provide. Owlwo Meals presents that content as is, assuming no responsibility for its accuracy, safety, fitness for any purpose, or the rights in it.
Personal user recipes. If you upload your own recipe, you are solely responsible for it: you represent that you hold all necessary rights, that your use is lawful, and that it complies with Acceptable use (Section 5), and you grant us the license described in Section 9. Owlwo Meals does not review, verify, or endorse user-uploaded content, assumes no liability for it, and may remove it at any time.
Third-party content and its review. We review sources periodically to remove inaccessible links or information we find to be incorrect, but third-party platforms and creators (for example, YouTube channels or websites) are solely responsible for their own content and may change, replace, or repurpose it at any time, outside our control. We are not responsible for changes a source makes after it has been referenced — including where it later shows objectionable, offensive, or unlawful content — and we may remove or disable any recipe or source from the catalog at our sole discretion.

7. Artificial intelligence features

Owlwo Meals uses third-party artificial intelligence (today the OpenAI and/or Anthropic APIs; the provider may change) to categorize catalog recipes and, on the paid tier, to offer an assistant that personalizes suggestions based on your preferences. Regarding these features:

Categorizations may contain errors. AI assigns categories (dish type, main ingredient, preparation time, etc.) automatically and may make mistakes. Treat categorization as a guide, not a definitive classification.
Suggestions are personalized, not prescriptions. The recommendation engine infers your taste from your swipe history; it does not know your medical needs, allergies, or dietary restrictions. Owlwo suggests — you decide.
Owlwo never acts on its own. No AI feature creates, edits, saves, or deletes information in your account without your confirmation.

8. Subscriptions, pricing, and payments

Owlwo Meals offers an ad-supported free tier and a paid tier with automatic renewal that removes ads and unlocks additional features (unlimited favorites, the meal planner, your own recipes, and the AI assistant with a monthly credit allowance). Pricing, periods, and features of each plan are shown in the app before you subscribe. Some AI features may be offered through consumable credits you can purchase separately. If any of these plans is not yet active when you use the service, this section will apply once it is introduced.

Billing through the app stores. Purchases are processed via in-app purchase on the Apple App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android), depending on the platform you use Owlwo Meals on, and are governed by the terms of the relevant store (the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions or the Google Play Terms of Service). Accordingly:

Automatic renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically for the same period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. The renewal charge is applied within 24 hours before the period ends.
Management and cancellation. You can manage or cancel your subscription in your Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play) account settings, depending on where you subscribed. Cancelling prevents future renewals; you keep access until the end of the period already paid.
Refunds. Refunds are handled by the relevant store under its policies: Apple (via "Report a Problem" or Apple Support) or Google Play (under the Google Play refund policy). We do not directly process payments and generally cannot issue refunds for purchases made through Apple or Google. This does not limit any mandatory rights you have under the law of your country of residence.
Taxes. Apple or Google, depending on the store, acts as the seller/merchant of record and collects applicable consumption taxes (e.g., VAT in Mexico, sales tax in the US) based on your country.
Price changes. We may change prices going forward. If a change affects your active subscription, we will notify you with the advance notice the relevant store or the law requires.

9. Your data and content

Your preferences belong to you. Your swipe history, favorites, and preferences are yours. You grant us a limited license to store and process that data solely to operate the service (including the recommendation engine), in accordance with the Privacy Policy.

Content you upload. If you upload recipes or other content (text, photos, notes), you keep ownership of your rights. You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license, sublicensable to our providers, solely to host, store, reproduce, and display that content in order to operate and improve the service. You represent and warrant that you hold all rights necessary for what you upload and that it does not infringe third-party rights or the Acceptable use section (Section 5). You may delete your content at any time; we may remove or disable content that, in our reasonable judgment, violates these Terms or the law.

You are responsible for ensuring your use of the service is lawful. Although we keep history and allow account deletion, we recommend not using Owlwo Meals as your only record of important information.

10. Intellectual property and license

Owlwo Meals, its name, its mascot (the owl), its design, its software, the recipe catalog, and content we create are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by applicable law. Subject to these Terms, we grant you a personal, limited, revocable, non-exclusive, and non-transferable license to install and use the app on the devices (Apple or Android) you own or control, under the usage rules of the relevant app store.

Catalog recipes originate from third-party sources or from chefs, creators, and users; copyright in each recipe belongs to its respective author or rightsholder. Where a recipe links to an external source, Owlwo Meals presents it for discovery purposes and links to the original source. If you are a rightsholder and believe a recipe's presentation in the catalog infringes your rights, contact us at hello@owlwoapp.com (put "Legal" in the subject).

You acquire no rights in Owlwo Meals beyond the right to use it under this license.

11. App stores (Apple and Google Play)

When you download Owlwo Meals from the App Store, the following conditions required by Apple also apply. "Apple" means Apple Inc. and its subsidiaries.

Agreement only between you and us. These Terms are between you and Marco Patiño (Owlwo Meals), not Apple. Owlwo Meals and its content are our responsibility, not Apple's.
License. The app license is for use on Apple-branded devices you own or control, under the App Store Usage Rules, and is not transferable.
Maintenance and support. We are solely responsible for app support and maintenance. Apple has no obligation to provide either.
Warranties. We are solely responsible for any app warranties. If the app fails to meet an applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple may refund the purchase price (if any); to the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple will have no other warranty obligation.
Claims. We (not Apple) are responsible for addressing claims you or third parties bring related to the app, including product liability, legal non-compliance, consumer protection, and privacy claims.
Intellectual property. If a third party claims the app infringes its intellectual-property rights, we (not Apple) will be responsible for investigating, defending, and resolving that claim.
Legal compliance. You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a US government embargo or designated as a "terrorist supporting" country, and that you are not on any prohibited or restricted party list.
Apple as third-party beneficiary. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and, upon your acceptance, Apple will have the right to enforce these Terms against you as a third-party beneficiary.

Google Play (Android). When you download Owlwo Meals from Google Play, your use is also subject to the Google Play Terms of Service. Google is not a party to these Terms and is not responsible for the app or its content; support, warranties, and claims relating to the app are our responsibility, not Google's.

12. Disclaimers

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Owlwo Meals is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure, nor that catalog information (ingredients, times, portions, categories) is accurate or complete for every purpose. Owlwo Meals is not nutritional, dietary, medical, or legal advice (see the Disclaimer). Nothing in this section excludes warranties that cannot be excluded under the consumer-protection law of your country of residence.

Cooking and eating are at your own risk. Cooking involves inherent risks (cuts, burns, fire, use of appliances), and handling and eating food can cause allergic reactions, food poisoning, or foodborne illness. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not responsible for any injury, accident, health harm, allergic reaction, food poisoning, or illness arising from preparing or eating any recipe, or from handling or storing food. You are responsible for verifying ingredients, cooking safely and to proper temperatures, and managing your own allergies and restrictions. None of this excludes liabilities that cannot be limited under the consumer-protection law of your country of residence.

13. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, nor for data loss, health-related harm arising from using recipes without adequate verification, or decisions made based on service information. Our total cumulative liability for any claim related to the service is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us for the service in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) MXN $500 / USD $25.

These limitations do not apply to liabilities that cannot be limited by law (for example, fraud or mandatory consumer rights) and are not intended to deprive you of mandatory legal protections in your country of residence.

14. Indemnification

To the extent permitted by law, you agree to hold us harmless from third-party claims arising from your misuse of the service or your breach of these Terms.

15. Suspension and termination

You may stop using Owlwo Meals and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these Terms, for security or legal reasons, or if we discontinue the service, with reasonable notice where possible. Upon termination, your license ends; the handling and deletion of your data is governed by the Privacy Policy. Amounts already charged through subscriptions are handled under Apple's or Google Play's policies, as applicable.

16. Changes to the service and Terms

We may modify the service and these Terms. When changes are material, we will notify you by a reasonable means (for example, in the app or by email) and update the effective date. Continuing to use Owlwo Meals after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance; if you disagree, stop using the service.

17. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of Mexico. For any dispute, the parties submit to the competent courts of Mexico, except for the mandatory rights and forums that the consumer-protection law of your country of residence grants you:

If you reside in Mexico, you retain your rights under the Ley Federal de Protección al Consumidor and may approach PROFECO.
If you reside in the United States, you retain your state's consumer-protection rights and access to any legally available forums.

Before initiating any action, we ask you to contact us at hello@owlwoapp.com (subject "Legal") to seek a good-faith resolution.

18. Miscellaneous

Language. The Spanish version of these Terms is binding. The English translation is provided as a courtesy; in case of conflict, Spanish prevails.
Entire agreement. These Terms, with the Privacy Policy and the Disclaimer, constitute the entire agreement between the parties regarding the service.
Severability. If any provision is found invalid, the rest remain in effect.
No waiver. Our failure to enforce a right does not constitute a waiver of that right.
Assignment. You may not assign these Terms without our consent; we may assign them as part of a reorganization or transfer of the service, with notice to you.
